Welcome to Clinical Reasoning Foundations.

Everything that we do is dependent upon a deductive and inductive reasoning process. Without good clinical analysis we have no rationale for anything that we do. In my opinion the drive toward evidence based medicine has become a lean to evidence driven medicine. All research is predicated on establishing an answerable question as such the information is excellent to have but does not have the complexities of each new patient who comes as an N of 1. Reality is that we should have an evidence informed awareness of the current state of literature to assist us in a solid critical analysis methodology which we use routinely in patient encounters.

This class is predicated on establishing precisely that. The treatment approaches are as multifaceted as patient presentations. The critical analysis is founded on Geoff Maitland’s work and the orientation for looking at patients is precisely that.We pride ourselves on developing clinician’s skills for the clinic within a mental paradigm that will always be reliable. To do this we prefer to spend as much time in live sessions as possible learning and honing the psychomotor skill sets that we all need. However it is all for naught if the thinking process is askew.

To accomplish this we ask students to do some reading, watching and listening on their own for all of the didactic material liberating us in vivo to apply the psychomotor components predominantly. It is essential for you to get this information prior to engaging in any of the other classes.

There is nearly always a video of a live patient treatment session and quite often an actual live patient and you will need to understand the thought process for these aspects to be of maximal benefit. You will find a series of folders here each numbered in the recommended order. If you have an excellent orientation in this model from the past you can do them in any order that suits you. The “flip lectures”. Are purposefully kept as short as possible as we are aware of the attention span to such formats. No problem adjusting the movie speed if your brain can adjust. The reading is primarily written by myself with some obvious contributions from mentors including Geoff Maitland.

We will never waste your time!! Everything that is contained herein will be pertinent to the class and talked about in discussion format to ensure homogenous grasp by the cohort. Hopefully you will enjoy it all as much as I enjoy sharing the knowledge.
